Agency, Gillette company settle harassment suit

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission says it has reached a settlement with HD Supply, Inc.,
over the alleged sexual harassment of a female employee at the
company’s Gillette facility.
The federal agency announced this week that a pending settlement
of the agency’s lawsuit against the company calls for the victim to
receive $33,000. U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson must approve
the settlement.
The agency filed suit against HD Supply in March 2009.
The lawsuit alleges that a male co-worker groped the female
office clerk. The agency charges the woman was ridiculed when she
reported the harassment to her male branch manager. The agency says
she also suffered retaliation.
The settlement also calls for HD Supply to implement internal
policies and staff training at its Gillette facility to address
sexual misconduct and retaliation.
