Prehistoric site sits high in Wind River Range
LOGAN, Utah (AP) – An excavation of a prehistoric village by Utah researchers is turning up the question: Why so high? The so-called “High Rise Village” on a slope of the Wind River Range is at an elevation of nearly 11,000 feet. The site holds traces of 51 pit houses and evidence of cooking and tool making. Utah State University anthropologist Chris Morgan says his excavation could explain how people came to occupy most of the globe by the end of the Pleistocene era about 12,000 years ago. — Information from: The Herald Journal, http://www.hjnews.com … Read entire article »

Newspaper, school district battle of teacher pay
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – The Wyoming Tribune Eagle is asking a court to order a school district to release records of teacher salaries amid concern from school officials who argue the information is confidential because of safety concerns. Newspaper attorney Michael Krampner says the records are public because the Laramie School District 1 is a governing entity. District Superintendent Mark Stock argues that school officials have a responsibility to protect its employees. A court hearing is scheduled Friday morning. Stock says the district asked employees to tell school officials how the release of their pay information could harm them in light of the newspaper’s request. Stock says 50 employees responded but he would not say how many of them expressed concern for their safety. — Information from: Wyoming Tribune Eagle – Cheyenne, http://www.wyomingnews.com … Read entire article »
