Man gets 3 to 6 years in Casper molestation case
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) – A man accused of molesting a 7-year-old boy
has been sentenced to three to six years in prison.
Twenty-eight-year-old Ray Donald Lucero is a former Mills
resident who was arrested in Las Animas, Colo. He pleaded no
contest to second-degree sexual abuse in July and was sentenced
Thursday in Casper.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that defense lawyer Rob Oldham
requested that the judge consider a sentence that included some
supervised probation and counseling. He said Lucero has struggled
with his sexual identity for years and serving time in the Wyoming
State Penitentiary wouldn’t allow him to get counseling.
But the judge said he didn’t have control over what resources
were available in prison. He handed down the sentence requested by
prosecutors.
