Three vehicles fall in ice at Boysen State Park

(BOYSEN STATE PARK)   The Fremont County Sheriff’s Department is reporting today that three vehicles fell into the ice at Boysen State Park over the weekend.      There were no injuries, and reportedly everyone was safe on shore.      The vehicles fell through the ice and went to the bottom of Boysen Reservoir near Tough Creek on Saturday.  Reports indicate that the vehicles were a Suburban, a pickup truck and a Tahoe.      The call was forwarded to State Parks, and the incident is under investigation. … Read entire article »

Man beats woman, gets arrested

(RIVERTON)   A Riverton man is in custody today after getting into a fight with a woman last (Sunday) night.      Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old Thomas Williams last night in the 100 block of Bee Road near Riverton.  He is charged with Domestic Violence Battery after allegedly becoming engaged in a physical altercation with a female. … Read entire article »

Senior Center in Riverton Fire

(RIVERTON)  Residents, staff and firemen all had a scare last night when fire alarms went off at the Seratoma Senior Housing in Riverton.      When firemen arrived, Fire Chief Matt Lee said the facility was full of smoke, so they evacuated everyone from the facility.  Lee said that was no small task since the residents are all elderly or disabled, but he said everyone was evacuated without incident.      While the evacuation was underway, firemen found the source of the smoke that was filling up the facility.  Turns out an air compressor in the mechanical room seized up and the belt driving the motor ended up catching on fire.       Everyone was allowed to return inside the Senior Housing project a short time later. … Read entire article »

Firemen assist police with lost children

(RIVERTON)   Riverton Firemen assisted the Riverton Police Department last night in a search effort to locate two missing children near Wind River Estates.      The children were reported to be a 17 year old girl and a 10 year old boy.  It was believed that the two were out in the elements late last night and didn’t have the proper clothing.       After several hours of searching it was determined that the children were with friends and search crews returned home.  … Read entire article »

Wyoming lawmakers face health, education bills

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – Polarizing issues such as teacher tenure, repudiation of same-sex marriage and the best way to condemn the federal health care reform law are likely to spark debate in both houses of the Wyoming Legislature this week.      Senate President Jim Anderson and House Speaker Ed Buchanan say both houses are likely to continue their discussion of the federal health care law this week.      The House on Friday gave preliminary approval to a “nullification” bill that says Wyoming thinks the federal health law is unconstitutional and void.      The Senate is considering a proposal to modify the state Constitution to say Wyoming residents have the right to resist federal health insurance mandates. … Read entire article »

Wyodak among 17 mines cited for safety violations

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) – Inspectors found five safety violations at the Wyodak Mine near Gillette last month during inspections ordered after the death of 29 miners in an explosion at West Virginia’s Upper Big Branch Mine in April.      U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration inspectors did not immediately release details of the violations at the open pit coal mine, which include two that were deemed substantial and significant and first reported by the Casper Star-Tribune. Inspectors cited complaints and enforcement history.      Operator Wyodak Resources Development Corp. is a subsidiary of Black Hills Corp. Heavy winter boosts wildlife motor deaths

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) – Heavy snows this winter have likely resulted in more wildlife-vehicle collisions in Teton County.      It is a trend that has officials worried for both the big game and motorists.      From October through mid-January, volunteers tallied 27 animals killed on roadways, the vast majority of which were killed on highways 22 and 89.      Sue Colligan, of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation, says the vast majority of the animals killed are mule deer.      Wyoming Department of Transportation engineer Pete Hallsten says the early, heavy snow has concentrated animals near roads where it is easier for them to find food and move about.      Hallsten tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that an unusual number of animal collisions also are occurring north of Pinedale, north of Evanston and near La Barge. … Read entire article »

Lander Police Arrest reports

(LANDER)  The Lander Police Department was dispatched to 44 calls for service over the weekend.  Of the 44 calls, 5 involved the use of alcohol and 3 arrests were made.  26 year old Clayton Baehr was arrested and charged with DUI Saturday morning at approximately 2:00 am after he was stopped for an illegal turn. At approximately 3:00 am Saturday morning Officers observed a suspicious male walking in the area of Wyoming Street.  When contacted he was identified as Nathaniel Fryer of Lander.  It was learned that Nathaniel was in violation of a supervised probation by consuming alcohol.  He was arrested for the probation violation. 32 year old Shannon Lanaham was charged with DUI, and multiple other charges after she was stopped for improper driving on Sunday morning about 12:30 am.  According to … Read entire article »

Local man pleads guilty

(CHEYENNE)  Wolfe Jon Taylor Willow, 25, of Fort Washakie, pleaded guilty in federal district court on January 21, to a charge of abusive sexual contact involving a victim under the age of 12.      Willow was indicted on November 17, 2010. Sentencing has been set for April 8, 2011. Willow remains detained and has been ordered to have no contact with any of the families involved. … Read entire article »
