Fremont County Search and Rescue, rescue man on Shoshone Lake Road
(LANDER) Fremont County Search and Rescue members were called into action yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon after the Sheriff’s office received a report of a man who was injured on theShoshone Lake Road. The report was called in by an individual who came upon the man while traversing the dangerousShoshoneLakeroad. About 10 minutes later, the Sheriff’s department received another phone call, this time from the man’s companion who had to travel some distance to get cell phone coverage. He advised the Sheriff’s office that his friend, who’s name isn’t being released, had possibly hit his head on his handle bars of his 4 wheeler and was going in and out of consciousness. Man dies at Bull Lake
(CROWHEART) EMS crews were called toBullLakejust before 2pm yesterday (Tuesday) to help a man who fell onto some rocks near the boat ramp atBullLake. The man, who’s name has not been released yet, reportedly fell onto the rocks and became unresponsive. CPR was performed, however when the Wind River Police Department arrived, they notified the Fremont County Coroner to respond to the location. Grizzly research season begins in Yellowstone
YELLOWSTONENATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) – Trapping of grizzly bears for scientific research is set to resume in Yellowstone National Park not far from where a grizzly killed a hiker last week. Park officials say the research could help identify which bear killed the man. The regularly scheduled fall research season for the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team begins Wednesday and continues to Oct. 20. Yellowstoneofficials say the research involves baiting and trapping bears at several sites withinYellowstone. Once trapped, bears are sedated and studied. Trapping will begin near Yellowstone’sHaydenValley. Park officials say scientists will mark the areas where trapping is taking place. Grizzly bear moved by Wyoming Game and Fish
CODY,Wyo.(AP) – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has trapped and relocated an adult male grizzly bear that killed an Angus calf north of Dubois. The calf was killed on a grazing allotment on the Shoshone National Forest. The bear was released in the North Fork of theShoshone River drainage about 50 miles west of Cody. The release site is located within currently occupied grizzly bear habitat and grizzly bears are present throughout the area. Wyoming troopers gear up for holiday weekend
CHEYENNE,Wyo.(AP) – Troopers with theWyomingHighway Patrol will be out in force over the Labor Day weekend. Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the patrol says extra troopers will be deployed over the weekend. He says all troopers are required to work over the weekend and says they will also be allowed to work extra hours. Townsend says a federal grant is covering overtime payments for the troopers. They will be targeting drunk drivers, aggressive drivers and seat belt violations. Troopers issued more than 2,500 speeding citations over the last Labor Day weekend. Private plane traffic down at Jackson Hole airport
JACKSON,Wyo.(AP) – Private plane traffic atJackson Hole Airport has declined since 2006, and experts say it’s probably because of the recession and high fuel prices. The Jackson Hole News and Guide reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/pT562n ) that private plane takeoffs and landings dropped 28 percent between 2006 and 2008. Operations have increased since then, but the 2010 figure was still 14 percent below 2006. Private plane flights are down nationwide. Federal Aviation Administration statics show total hours flown declined by more than 14 percent between 2006 and 2009. 2 children drown during Wyo. kayaking trip
BASIN, Wyo. (AP) -Wyomingauthorities say two children drowned and two others are hospitalized after high waves hit their family’s kayaks onBigHornLake. Big Horn County Sheriff Ken Blackburn says John and Janice Harder were kayaking with their six children Monday evening near the Kane boat ramp when a wind storm scattered their kayaks. Man involved in boat accident died of heart attack
POWELL, Wyo. (AP) – Officials say a man involved in a fatal boating accident on the North Fork of theShoshone Riverin northernWyominglast week died of an apparent heart attack. It was originally thought that the man had drowned after falling out of the boat. Park County Coroner Tim Power identified the man as 77-year-old Earl Le Blanc and attributed his death to a heart attack. Relief in forecast for Mont., Idaho firefighters
HELENA,Mont.(AP) – Officials say relief is in the forecast Wednesday for crews battling wildfires inMontanaandIdaho. More than 42,000 lightning strikes were recorded in a 36-hour period between Sunday and Tuesday across theNorthern Rockies, sparking new wildfires in a region already inundated with blazes. Temperatures are expected to drop across the region Wednesday and Thursday, and rain is predicted, a help to firefighters in western and northernMontana. One of Monday’s lightning strikes ignited a fire that quickly spread to 2,000 acres in south-centralMontanaabout five miles north ofLaurel,Mont.The Canyon Creek wildfire briefly threatened 256 houses before the wind died and firefighters set up protection lines on its southern perimeter. Lander Rotary celebrates 75th anniversary
(Lander) – On August 31, 1936, the first meeting of the Rotary Club of Lander was held. Today, 75 years later and 70 members strong, the club continues to play an important role in the community. To note the club’s 75th anniversary, a special celebration was held today (Wednesday) at the club’s regular meeting. Longtime members of the club related stories about the club’s growth over the years. Current Club President Mark Randall said the club would be observing it’s 75th anniversary throughout the year, and it plans a major celebration early in 2012. The Lander Club was originally sponsored by the Rawlins Rotary Club. Lander, in turn, sponsored the establishment of the Rotary Club in Riverton in July of 1979.
