Fremont County Search and Rescue find missing men
(JEFFREY CITY, Wyo.) The Fremont County Sheriff dispatched two Search and Rescue Calls yesterday (February 21, 2012).
The first originated approximately 22 miles south of Jeffrey City along the Crooks Gap Road near the Sweetwater County Line. A Shoshoni man called authorities to report that his vehicle had become stuck in a snow drift and he was unable to free the vehicle. Crooks Gap Road leads to the town of Wamsutter, (Wyoming) and is often utilized as a back road or short cut to the Wamsutter area; the roadway has no winter maintenance and WYDOT officially closed the road today.
Deputy Sheriff J.D. Darnell along with a Fremont County Roads employee utilized a county road grader to reach the stranded man. While doing so they also located four (4) additional vehicles also stuck in snow drifts along the roadway, to include a total of six (6) people needing assistance. All of the vehicles and men were freed from the drifts and went along their way.
The second Search and Rescue mission was initiated late last (Tuesday) night (February 21, 2012 @ 2110 Hours) for two overdue men, in the Warm Springs Canyon area west of Dubois.
The men left on foot for a day trip from the Union Pass area and did not arrive at their destination yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. Both men were found safe with no injuries just before 11am today. The complete names of the men are unknown, however we do know that one man is a Fremont County resident, while the other is presumed to be from Johnson County, both men are said to be in their 30′s.
