GRAND TETON RESCUE

GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK,Wyo.(AP) – Rangers have rescued a 21-year-old woman who was injured when she fell about 100 feet while descending Nez Perce Peak inGrand TetonNational Park.      Park spokeswoman Jenny Anzelmo-Sarles tells theJackson Hole News and Guide that Laura Mason, of Royal Oak,Mich., was glissading down the base of the Hourglass Couloir on the north side of the 11,901-foot peak Thursday morning when she fell and hit a series of rocks.      Anzelmo-Sarles couldn’t describe the nature of Mason’s injuries except to say she was unable to walk. WYOMING-SCHEDULE

LARAMIE,Wyo.(AP) – The nextWyomingmen’s basketball schedule has been finalized and it includes several big Saturday showdowns inLaramie.      This will be the first season of the Cowboys’ second tenure under head coach Larry Shyatt. This yearWyomingrehired Shyatt, who previously was the Pokes’ head coach in the 1990s.      Three big Mountain West Conference games will be played in the Arena-Auditorium on Saturdays:New Mexicoon Jan. 14,Colorado State on Jan. 21, and UNLV on Feb. 4.     Wyomingwill travel for seven conference games this season.      The nonconference schedule includes a Saturday home game against Bradley on Dec. 3.     Wyomingis scheduled to play atColoradoon Friday, Dec. 9.     LARAMIE,Wyo.(AP) – Freshman quarterback Brett Smith will again work with the number one offensive unit as the Wyoming Cowboys play their second scrimmage of the week.      The Cowboys say freshman Adam Pittser and junior-college transfer Colby Kirkegaard will rotate between the No. 2 and No. 3 offensive units during Friday’s scrimmage at War Memorial Stadium inLaramie.      Two players who missed Tuesday’s scrimmage are expected to play this time – sophomore tight end T.J. FATAL FALL

LANDER Wyo. (AP) – Authorities say anIdahoman has died from a fall inWyoming’sWind River Range.  The man fell offGannett Peakon Wednesday. He is identified as 63-year-old Don Scott, ofBoise.      The coroner’s office says he was climbing and hiking through the mountains with others when he slid a few hundred feet on a snow field into some boulders.      Winds were too strong on Thursday morning for a helicopter to recover the man’s body. MARIJUANA SEIZURE

CHEYENNE, Wyo (AP) — TheWyomingHighway Patrol reports that it has confiscated 188 pounds of high-grade marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 west ofCheyenne.      Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the patrol says troopers found the marijuana in a rental truck during the traffic stop on Sunday. He says the truck had started inCaliforniaand was heading to Pennsylvania.      The patrol states that it arrested the driver, a 56-year-old man, and charged him with felony possession of a controlled substance. … Read entire article »

DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) – A Wyoming man won more than half a million dollars on a 25-cent slot machine in Deadwood.      David Flores ofMeeteetse,Wyo., won nearly $558,000 after putting $20 into a Wheel of Fortune 25-cent MegaJackpots slot machine at Miss Kitty’s Casino on Monday. TheRapid CityJournal reports it is the second largest MegaJackpot to be won in Deadwood.     Floreswas in town for the Sturgis motorcycle rally. He was waiting for his wife while she was buying a rally cap when he decided to play. THAYNE,Wyo.(AP) – Three people fromUtahare dead following a head-on collision in far westernWyoming.      Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the Wyoming Highway Patrol says the crash happened Wednesday afternoon about 1 mile south of Thayne, in LincolnCounty.      Townsend says a 2007Toyotadriven northbound by 66-year-old Diane K. Duncan ofSalt Lake Citycrossed the center line.Duncan’s car hit a southbound pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Jacob L. Kilroy ofSmoot,Wyo., after Kilroy steered into the northbound lane to try to avoid a collision.      Duncan, 16-year-old Mackenzie A. Christensen ofSandy,Utah, and 80-year-old Milton D. Butler of Salt Lake Citywere killed. AURORA,Colo.(AP) – Two Colorado police officers accused of taking a wild, drunken ride throughWyomingon their way to a funeral inSouth Dakotahave been placed on desk duty.      According to theDenverPost theWyoming sheriff also received an apology.      A volunteer firefighter on Wednesday spotted a police car from Aurora,Colo., driving erratically down aGoshenCountyroadway. The car reportedly was speeding, using emergency lights to pass other vehicles and trash was flying out of its window.      Officer Bradley B. MONTANA FATAL-ID

BILLINGS,Mont.(AP) – Officials inBigHornCountyhave released the name of the man who died in a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 90 near the Montana-Wyoming state line.      Coroner Terry Bullis says 24-year-old Corbin Lastovich of Sheridan,Wyo., died in the crash near Wyola shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday.      The Montana Highway Patrol says Lastovich was eastbound when his vehicle drifted off the left side of the road. He overcorrected and went across both lanes of the interstate. The vehicle rolled. GRAND TETON-BICYCLIST DIES

MOOSE, Wyo. (AP) – A bicyclist was found unresponsive on a pathway inGrand TetonNational Parkand pronounced dead after unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate him.      Park officials say other bicyclists found 72-year-old Huntley Baldwin, ofWilson, lying unresponsive next to the pathway Tuesday.      Rangers and medical responders arrived within 6 minutes.
